Detailed 6-Day Itinerary

1

Arrival at Oldoinyo Lengai

After arriving in Arusha, we'll transfer you to the base of "Mountain of God" (Oldoinyo Lengai). Following a comprehensive briefing and equipment check, begin your ascent through the volcanic landscape, camping overnight at the base in preparation for your summit attempt. Enjoy a traditional dinner under the stars while learning about the volcano's cultural significance to the Maasai people.

2

Summit Day & Descent

Begin your pre-dawn summit push up the steep volcanic slopes. The challenging climb rewards you with sunrise views over the Rift Valley and the volcano's unique natrocarbonatite lava formations. After descending, enjoy a well-earned rest at camp followed by a celebration dinner. Today's achievement: conquering one of the world's most unique active volcanoes!

3

Lake Natron & Hot Springs

Visit the striking red waters of Lake Natron, home to 75% of the world's lesser flamingos. Soak in the therapeutic hot springs and learn about the Maasai communities who call this harsh but beautiful landscape home. Witness the incredible spectacle of thousands of flamingos creating a pink haze across the lake's surface - a photographer's paradise.

4

Lake Manyara Safari

Travel to Lake Manyara National Park for your first safari experience. Search for the park's famous tree-climbing lions, large elephant herds, and thousands of flamingos along the lakeshore. The park's groundwater forest is home to blue monkeys, hippos, and over 400 bird species. Overnight at a comfortable lodge with stunning views of the Great Rift Valley escarpment.

5

Full Day in Lake Manyara

Delve deeper into the park's diverse ecosystems, from groundwater forests to open plains. With over 400 bird species recorded, this is a paradise for birdwatchers and wildlife photographers alike. Today offers extended game drives and the opportunity to spot leopards, giraffes, and the elusive tree-climbing lions in their natural habitat.

6

Tarangire National Park & Return

Explore Tarangire's iconic baobab-dotted landscapes and some of Tanzania's largest elephant herds. The Tarangire River attracts incredible concentrations of wildlife during the dry season. After a full day of wildlife viewing and a farewell lunch, we'll return you to Arusha with unforgettable memories of your Tanzanian adventure.

Community Impact & Conservation

Your adventure supports local communities and conservation efforts

Your participation directly benefits the local Maasai communities through employment opportunities, community development projects, and conservation initiatives. We partner with local guides and use eco-friendly camps to minimize our environmental impact while supporting conservation efforts in these fragile ecosystems. A portion of your booking fee goes toward the Oldoinyo Lengai Conservation Fund, which supports volcanic research and local education programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about your Oldoinyo Lengai adventure

Is this trip suitable for beginners?

While the volcano climb is challenging, we've designed this itinerary with acclimatization in mind. A reasonable fitness level is required, but our expert guides will ensure you're well prepared for each day's activities. The climb involves steep sections and loose volcanic rock, but we maintain a slow, steady pace suitable for most active individuals.

What's included in the package?

The package includes all accommodations, meals, park fees, professional guides, transportation during the tour, camping equipment for the volcano climb, and all activities mentioned in the itinerary. Flights to Tanzania, visas, travel insurance, personal items, and gratuities are not included.

When is the best time to go?

The dry seasons (June-October and December-February) offer the best conditions for climbing and wildlife viewing. The volcano is climbable year-round, but the rainy seasons (March-May and November) may make some safari roads more challenging and reduce visibility during the climb.

Can we extend our stay?

Absolutely! Many guests choose to add a Serengeti safari, Ngorongoro Crater visit, or beach extension in Zanzibar. We'd be happy to customize your Tanzanian adventure to include additional destinations and experiences.
